BAFFLED drivers have hit out at blundering council workers who installed a 40mph speed limit sign alongside a 30mph road marking.

The confusing notices which appear on the A820 in Dunblane, have left motorists unsure of what speed they are meant to be going at.

One road user commented: "It's ridiculous that they have placed the 40mph sign right beside the 30mph road mark, surely whoever was putting the sign up must have clocked there was something wrong here. If it's the case that the road is meant to be a 40 zone, then the other sign should be burned off the road to stop any more confusion.

A spokesperson from Stirling Council said: "The 40mph sign is correct as it is the only legally enforceable physical feature.

"The 40mph was installed as part of the speed limit review, which Dunblane Community Council was consulted on last year."

Stirling Council have now confirmed the 30mph marking will be removed by contractors later on this year.
